10 Years of IAGF: An Evening of Gratitude, Appreciation, and New Beginnings
On June 18, 2026, the Institute for Applied Trade Research celebrated its 10th anniversary as part of the event “Trade & Crafts in Dialogue,” marking a decade of practical, scientifically grounded work for the trade and crafts sectors in Austria. In a festive setting, colleagues, partners, representatives from business, academia, and advocacy groups, as well as numerous supporters, came together to look back on the past and look ahead to the future.
Right from the start, it was clear what the evening was all about: “an evening of reflection, an evening of appreciation, but also an evening of passing on knowledge.” It was precisely this threefold theme that defined the celebration. Since its founding, the IAGF has seen itself as a bridge between academia, business, and practice—with the goal of highlighting “just how future-ready, modern, and versatile our craft is today.”
A special moment was the passing of the torch from Prof. Dr. Paulus Stuller, the founding president of the IAGF, to Manfred Denk, Federal Sector Chair for Trade and Crafts at the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber. The symbolic phrase “Take good care of our child” made it clear just how much passion, responsibility, and trust are invested in this transition. This marks the beginning of a new chapter—built on continuity, experience, and fresh ideas.
Prof. Dr. Reinhard Kainz was also honored during the ceremony for his decades of dedication and his influential role in the trade and crafts sectors. Personal remarks, memories, and anecdotes made it clear just how much effective advocacy depends on people who shape the future with perseverance, expertise, and integrity.
Behind the IAGF’s successes is a dedicated team. Under the leadership of Heidrun Bichler-Ripfel, the institute works to make scientific findings understandable, practical, and applicable. As a business psychologist, Viktoria Greiner makes a significant contribution to the quality and impact of the studies conducted. Patricia Zethofer, a graphic designer and project manager, ensures that content is visible and accessible. Elaine Grubmann focuses in particular on advancing EU projects and strengthening international networking. Madeleine Block, in turn, is driving new initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence, thereby supporting a future-oriented area that is becoming increasingly important for businesses.
The IAGF speaks both “the language of science” and “the language of the trades.” That is precisely where its strength lies. It translates research into concrete guidance for businesses—whether through studies, qualification standards, advanced vocational education, or projects related to digitalization and innovation.
The IAGF’s 10th anniversary is therefore not only a cause for celebration, but also a mandate for the years ahead. The challenges are growing: digitalization, artificial intelligence, the need for skilled workers, and new demands on education and training are transforming businesses. This makes it all the more important to have an institute that provides guidance, builds bridges, and supports the trade and craft sectors with scientific expertise.
