TIME4CLAY&LIME in the Color Wheel: Lime and Clay Are Once Again Taking Center Stage in the Painting Trade
The European Erasmus+ project TIME4CLAY&LIME has reached another important milestone in its public relations efforts: The June 2026 issue of the Austrian trade magazine “Farbenkreis – Das Fachmagazin des Malerhandwerks” featured a detailed article on the project. Under the title “Lime and Clay Make a Comeback in Modern Residential Construction,” the magazine reports on the symposium held at the Kartause Mauerbach and the project’s objectives.
This article focuses on the core message of TIME4CLAY&LIME: Traditional lime and clay coatings are not building materials of the past, but rather offer compelling solutions for the demands of sustainable construction. Their building physics properties, durability, and positive effects on the indoor climate make them a forward-looking alternative in modern residential and commercial construction.
The article draws on numerous insights from the expert discussion held at the Mauerbach Charterhouse. Experts from the trades, historic preservation, research, and vocational training discussed how centuries-old knowledge about lime and clay can be preserved while also being further developed for use in today’s construction practices. It became clear that traditional materials and innovative building concepts are not mutually exclusive—rather, they complement each other and open up new perspectives for sustainable construction.

As the official trade publication of the Federal Guild of Painters and Wallpaperers, *Farbenkreis* is distributed to member companies as well as to vocational schools, educational institutions, and other industry stakeholders.
